However, these two alternatives encompass many different choices with roof tiles being divided and subdivided into clay or concrete, plain or profiled and roof slates being divided into stone, metamorphic and man made. An increasing volume of black roof slate from Spain has been finding its way into historical projects as a substitute for increasingly scarce and expensive black and gray-black slates from traditional domestic roof slate regions.
