Quotatis Standards: How We Protect Our Customers

Here at Quotatis, we connect our customers with local tradespeople to help them with their home improvement projects. This means that, to give our customers as much choice as possible, we’ve developed a large network of tradespeople from all around the UK.

It’s important to us to help our customers find skilled and reliable professionals, who can work legally and safely. Unfortunately, there are illegitimate tradespeople out there looking to trick homeowners out of money with shoddy work.

This is why we do these 6 things when working with and signing up new network members to protect our customers.

1. Get proof of name and address

We start by asking all tradespeople who want to join our network for proof of their name and address. This is so we know they are who they say they are and where they’re based. This helps us to screen out illegitimate tradespeople going under false names or addresses.

2. Request a copy of their PLI certificate

Unlike many of our competitors, we also ask all tradespeople requesting to join our network to provide us with a copy of their public liability insurance certificate. Although contractors are not legally obliged to have PLI, we know that it helps to protect our customers and give them peace of mind.

3. Check they’ve got all compulsory qualifications and registrations

There are some trades that have compulsory qualifications and registrations. For example, any professional who works on gas appliances needs to be on the Gas Safe register. And any electrician verifying their own work needs Part P certification and appropriate qualifications.

We require all prospective members to supply us with proof that they have all relevant compulsory qualifications and registrations – otherwise we won’t allow them to sign up. This is to help ensure that their work is legal and safe.

4. Get proof of any other qualifications and registrations they have

We think it’s important to find out about all the qualifications and registrations our members have, not just the compulsory ones. We ask for proof of any other qualifications they have and verify their registrations with the authorising body. This is so we know that the details we have for them are correct.

5. Operate a closed review system

All our members have an online Quotatis profile page, where they can publish details of their work and collect reviews. We think that it’s really important that these ratings and reviews are accurate, so that our customers can use them to help them decide whether to hire the tradesperson. That’s why we have a closed review system – so only genuine customers who have used the tradesperson can rate and review them.

6. Support our customers

We know that no screening system is perfect. And we also know that there’s always a chance that you might end up disputing something with your tradesperson. That’s why we have a dedicated quality team to support our customers and liaise with our tradespeople to help you resolve any disputes or issues.

We do these 6 things to protect our customers and help you find reputable and skilled tradespeople in your area. However, it’s important to do your own checks too to make sure that the professionals you find are right for you. To find out more about what you should do when you’re considering hiring a professional, take a look at our handy article.

We love getting feedback as we’re always trying to improve our service. So if you’ve used us to find a tradesperson, leave a review on their profile page or review us on Trustpilot.

Or if you’re looking for a tradesperson to help you with your home improvement project, complete our online form. We’ll connect you with up to 4 professionals in your area.
