Save Water with These 6 Easy Bathroom and Kitchen Tips

As our country’s weather patterns become increasingly erratic and our population increases, there’s growing pressure on our water supplies.

That’s why it’s important that we all try to save water now to ensure that there’s enough to go round and to help the environment. You’ll save money on your water bills too!

6 Tips to help you save water

This Water Saving Week, find out 6 ways you can save water in your bathroom, kitchen and garden.

1. Turn off the taps

Don’t leave the tap running when you’re washing your face or brushing your teeth. This wastes 6 litres per minute!

2. Be shower-savvy

The average 8-minute shower can use a whopping 62 litres, and a power shower 136! Cutting two minutes off your shower could save you £40 off your energy and water bill if you’re on a meter.

You could look into getting a water-saving showerhead, which will help you use less water without you noticing the difference in pressure.

3. Use water-saving products

There are lots of devices available these days to help you save water. Lots of local water companies provide things such as cistern devices that use less water when you flush your toilet and tap inserts.

4. Never do half-loads

Always put on full loads in your dishwasher or washing machine. Full loads cost less to run and will reduce the number of uses per month.

5. Wash fruit and veg in a bowl

Instead of washing fruit and vegetables under a running tap, fill a bowl and rinse them that way. You’ll use much less water and you can even reuse the water to water your house plants or even in the garden.

6. Collect your rain water

Get a water butt for your garden so the rain water doesn’t go to waste. You can use it to water your plants rather than having to use the hose.

These water saving tips don’t take much time out of your day at all – in some cases, they may even save you time! But all of them will help you to see the difference in your utility bills and you’ll be doing your bit to help the environment.
