Cowes

Cowes is an English seaport town and civil parish on the Isle of Wight. Cowes is situated on the west bank of the estuary of the River Medina, facing the smaller town of East Cowes on the east bank. The 2 towns are connected by the Cowes Floating Bridge, a chain ferry. It is among a handful of remaining chain ferries not replaced by a physical bridge. Leland's 19th century verses depicted the towns poetically as 'The 2 great Cowes that in loud thunder roar, This on the eastern, that the western shore'. Cowes has actually been considereded as a home for intercontinental yacht racing since the founding of the Royal Yacht Squadron in 1815. The town gives its name to the world's oldest regular regatta, Cowes Week, which happens each year in the very first week of August. Later on in the summer season, powerboat races are held. The population was 9663 in the 2001 census, a figure that doubles throughout the regatta in early August. More recently, the population at the 2011 Census was 10405. Much of the town's architecture is still greatly influenced by the design of ornate structure which Prince Albert popularised. Industry in both Cowes and East Cowes has actually always centred on the construction and design of marine craft and products associated with boat-making, such as the early flying boats, and sail-making. Cowes is an entry town for the Isle of Wight. Tourists to Southampton are served by a high speed catamaran passenger ferryboat from Cowes called the Red Jet. It is the place where the first hovercraft was tested. For all of your home refurbishments, be sure to determine dependable specialists in Cowes to make sure of quality.

FAQs

How many sensors do I need?

The number of sensors you need will depend on the size of your home. Most alarm systems feature 2-4 passive infrared sensors (PIRs) for motion detection, and 2-4 magnetic contact sensors on doors and windows. An alarm company will advise you of how many your property will need upon an inspecton.

Will my alarm system cause lots of false alarms?

Properly installed and calibrated alarm systems will very rarely trigger a false alarm. If you have pets you will need to use pet-friendly alarm systems. External sensors should be properly calibrated to avoid triggering in the wind or rain. NSI is a recognised standard for all alarm installations, check the NSI flag is displayed on an installers credentials.

Does CCTV deter crime?

Various studies have suggested that CCTV is an effective deterrent against home burglaries. In the event that a crime is committed on your property, well placed CCTV means you’ll have the evidence to help the police. It has been recorded consistantly that since CCTV systems have been installed, localised crime has fallen and has lead to more arrests.

Does CCTV work in the dark?

Most cameras have a night mode to capture video in the dark. They use an infrared sensor to detect infrared light. These pictures are black and white, but still retain plenty of detail. Cameras are also able to see and record in adverse conditions such as fog, dust and smoke.
