Bacup

Bacup is a town in Lancashire, England, in the South Pennines near to Lancashire's border with West Yorkshire. The town is within the Forest of Rossendale and the upper Irwell Valley, 3.5 miles (5.6 km) east of Rawtenstall, 6.4 miles (10.3 km) north of Rochdale, and 21 miles (34 km) to the east of Preston. As outlined by the 2011 Census, Bacup has a permanent resident population of approximately 13323 inhabitants. Bacup emerged as a settlement following the Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain in the Early Middle Ages. For a long time, it was a little and obscure centre of domestic flannel and woollen cloth production, and a lot of the original weavers' cottages survive as listed buildings. After the Industrial Revolution, Bacup transformed into a mill town, expanding around the now covered over bridge crossing the River Irwell and the North-South / East-West crossroad at its centre. In the course of that time, its landscape was dominated by unique and large rectangular woollen and cotton mills. Bacup was granted a charter of incorporation in 1882, which gave it municipal borough status and its own elected town government, including a mayor, aldermen and councillors to oversee local affairs. During the late 20th century, Bacup became part of the borough of Rossendale. Bacup's historic character, culture and festivities have aided the town's suburbanisation and redevelopment as a more cosmopolitan commuter town for Manchester as well as other North West towns and cities. Nevertheless, English Heritage has proclaimed Bacup as the most preserved cotton town in England, and its town centre is named as a conservation area for its special architectural qualities. For all your house improvements, be certain that you employ reputable experts in Bacup to ensure you get the top quality service.

    FAQs

What materials do patios come in?

Patios can be made from brick, natural stone or paving stones or slabs. These materials come in a huge range of colours, sizes and effects, so your patio can perfectly complement your garden space. Have a look for yourself or get a paver in to show you and bring samples.

How to resurface a painted concrete patio?

A big benefit to concrete is that you can paint it, making it easy to customise and coordinate with your outside area. However, it’s easy to resurface it too, so if you change your mind or inherit a patio that’s the wrong colour, you don’t need to worry.

Start by cleaning the surface with water and a brush. If you come up against any tough stains, you might need to use a detergent and water mix to remove them. Then you can prepare your resurfacer.

Generally, it’s best to apply resurfacer to a moist surface, although make sure you follow the instructions on the specific product you buy. You’ll need to mix the resurfacer with water, then pour and spread it on with a trowel or brush. You might need to apply multiple coats, and can add texture if you want to make the surface more grippy.

Ensure you protect any expansion joints in your patio with duct tape or weather stripping to stop the resurfacer from filling them in. You can also add a colour agent to your resurfacer before you apply it if you’d like to customise the colour.

How to seal cracks in a concrete driveway?

Cracks on your concrete driveway can look scruffy and unsightly. They can also lead to further damage, as moisture can get into the cracks and make them worse. So, it’s important to seal the cracks as soon as you can.

Start by cleaning the area and removing any loose materials. This will help any new materials you introduce to bond with your existing driveway. Then use concrete caulking or sealer to fill in the cracks. You’ll need to use a trowel to push the filler firmly into the crack.

Once you’ve filled in the crack, make sure you consult the product instructions and leave it for the amount of time specified before using your concrete driveway again.

My garden is sloped, can I install a patio?

Patios are suitable for many gardens. If you do not have a flat area already, consider having some landscaping work done to create one. If your garden is on a very extreme slope, you could have a multi-layered (terraced) patio with steps between each layer. Ask for advice and get quotes if you're not sure.
