Having a trademark look of broken portions, it will set your home aside from people with block paving or hardwood decking.

Although it may well resemble an easy DIY job, it shouldn't be tried without having the essential skills since there is actually heavy labour involved. A specialist is best positioned to complete a crazy paving job and the finished look will likely be excellent.

Alford

In the UK right now there are literally thousands of small towns and villages with a population under 30,000 and Alford is actually just one of these. Alford has got a diverse selection of property types from traditional to modern, whether they be detached, semi-detached, terraced, bungalows or flats. As with the rest of Great Britain, one of the primary issues in Alford is that it now costs thousands of pounds in fees alone to move. Stamp duty, solicitor fees and estate agent bills all play a role to a hefty bill. Because of this it's now become common practice for homeowners to as an alternative improve their property rather than relocate. But exactly what does this involve? This depends totally on your Alford property, the area you have available and your budget. Regardless of whether it's something as inexpensive and effective as adding loft lagging, or even a long-term benefit such as an extension, a new central heating boiler or photovoltaic panels, we will provide you with your investment. Ensure of having the right cost for whatever you're after by comparing quotes from businesses within Alford at no obligation.

    FAQs

    How to lay paving slabs

Slab paving is a great material to use to create an attractive and practical driveway, path or patio. Whether you’re hiring a professional or thinking of trying DIY, here’s a quick guide to how it’s done.

Firstly, you’ll need to mark out where your slabs are going to go. This includes calculating the fall – it’s important to get this right so the area drains easily. Then you’ll need to remove any turf in the area and dig it down to the right depth.

Next, you need to lay the sub-base. You can use compacted hardcore to do this, followed by a layer of sharp sand or all-in ballast as a blinding coat.

Then, you’ll be ready to lay your paving slabs. Lay a 6cm layer of mortar and put your paving slab on top. Tap the slab into position and fill in any gaps underneath with mortar. Use position spacers and a spirit level to make sure your paving is uniform and level.

After you’ve laid your paving, you’ll need to leave it for at least 48 hours to allow it to set.

    How to cut paving slabs

Some paving projects require you to cut paving slabs to make them fit into a smaller space. To do this, firstly you need to measure the slab and draw a line in pencil or chalk where you want to cut.

There are then several different ways you can cut the slab – you or your professional can choose the one you or they are most happy with. A hammer and chisel can work well, or a handheld saw. You can also use an angle grinder fitted with a stone-cutting disc.

How to lay a shed base with paving slabs

Slab paving is a great material to use to create a sturdy shed base.

Start by measuring out the area where your shed is going to be. This needs to be the size of your shed, plus about 10-20cm extra each way. Mark it out with string and pegs, make sure it’s square, and dig it down to about 6cm deep.

Then create a sand and cement mixture and put a layer down, followed by your paving slabs. Make sure you start in one corner and use a rubber mallet and spirit level to make sure they’re as level as possible. Leave this to set and you’re ready to use your shed base.

    Can you paint paving slabs?

If you want to give your concrete paving slabs a new lease of life, it’s possible to paint them. This is a great option if your slabs are looking tired or you want a new look, but you don’t want to invest in new paving.

Before you go ahead, you need to make sure that your slab paving is clean and dry. And if it’s been sealed, you’ll need to strip this off. Make sure you get a paint that’s specifically designed for the job so you get the best results.
