Linlithgow

Linlithgow is a royal burgh in West Lothian, Scotland. It is West Lothian's county town, as seen in the county's other name of Linlithgowshire. Linlithgow lies in the north-east of West Lothian, close to the border with Stirlingshire. It lies 20 miles (30 km) west of Edinburgh along the primary railway route to Glasgow. Before the construction of the M8 and M9 motorways, along with the launching of the Forth Road Bridge, the town was situated on the principal road from Edinburgh to Stirling, Perth and Inverness while the canal system linked the burgh to Edinburgh and Glasgow. The local town of Blackness at one time provided the burgh's port. Linlithgow is surmounted by its local hill, Cockleroi. An ancient town, it lies south of its two most prominent landmarks: Linlithgow Palace and Linlithgow Loch, and north of the Union Canal. With Saint Michael as the partron saint, the town's motto is 'St. Michael is kinde to straingers'. A statue of the saint holding the burgh insignia stands on the high street. 2 large areas of the northern side of the High Street were demolished in the 1960s and replaced by flats and public buildings in the brutalist style typical of that time period. Even though these structures were embraced at the time as being a large improvement on the confined and dilapidated traditional accommodation, they have needed comprehensive servicing and restoration over the years. With a population of around 19000, the town is extremely popular with the middles classes and commuters due to efficient transport links and high quality schooling. For all your home upgrades, make sure to make use of trustworthy professionals in Linlithgow to make certain of quality.

FAQs

How do I know my new door is secure?

There are a range of locks that are available for doors. Look for ones accredited by Secured by Design and British Standards. The quality of the installation will also affect the security of the door. Additional security measures such as a double lock, security bolts and chains can support this.

how long does it take to fit patio doors?

If you’re interested in getting a replacement door, you may want to know just how long it’ll take to fit your new patio door. However, there’s no specific answer to this question as there are different types of patio doors with all having unique installation processes as well as varying completion times. Generally, fitting patio doors will normally take within a range of 10 days to 21 days, except in situations whereby you have specific and non standard requirements. The time range provided represents the total duration starting from ordering the patio door till the installation is completed and this also varies from style to style.

If you want to get a professional double glazing surveyor, he will assess you property while also making sure the right and accurate measurements are taken and also plan out the installation. In order to avoid any unnecessary delays, this is a very crucial step as the surveyor will work to make sure any potential problems is identified early on. Once done, you can then wait a couple of days for the door to be manufactured and then fitted, depending on the door style and finish.

The time to completion varies depending on the complexity of the design. Patio doors may take about 14 days to 21 days with bifold patio doors being the most complicated and time consuming. This is due to the fact that they take longer time to manufacture and when you factor in the possible duration of the installation, you can expect a total duration between the range of 6 weeks to 8 weeks.

In addition, there are also some other factors that can affect the time it takes to install patio doors. These includes the need for a higher energy rating, upgraded security fittings, door hardware with custom finish and other special requirements that are beyond the standards.

what are french doors?

A French door simply means a door style which features two sections that pivots on hinges installed on the door framing’s opposite sides, which opens and closes at the centre. Glass panels are used to make each door’s section covering the middle of the door ( either individual panels that are muntins framed or a single panel of glass). When open, the whole doorway is an open space with no post at the middle. French doors are popular for a number of reasons. Not only do they bring a particular level of charm, class and elegance to your home, but also allow natural light into a room and create a wide opening unlike a sliding patio door. They’re mostly installed at the rear of a home so as to allow for a direct walkway exiting the house and straight into the garden, thereby making your garden even a lot more closer to your home.

There are 3 main types of patio doors which includes the following:

• External or French patio doors

As the name suggests, they’re the French door that leads outside mostly into the garden. Generally when opened, the two door swings outwards, but there are some that can open inwards. They mostly possess a number of large glass panels which enable natural light to brighten up your home.

• Interior

This basically means fitting double French doors between two rooms in a house. This is very similar to the external ones with two doors and also made up of glass panels.

• Sliding

They are very similar to both the external and interior designs but rather than the two doors swinging open, they slide apart to create a great amount of space to walk into the garden. This is the classic charm that sliding French doors provide.

do you need planning permission for french doors?

So you’ve decided to add some new French doors for your home? If yes, then you’re likely going to be concerned about whether or not you’ll require a planning permission to get started.

Properties are compelled to meet certain requirements and have proper permission in place in order to be in line with the regulations. Overall, you’re going to need planning permission in the following situations:

• If you want to construct something new.

• If you want to a make a major change to a building like an extension.

• If you want to change the use of your building such as converting it from residential to commercial.

Getting a new door or replacing an existing one doesn’t usually require a planning permission as it’s one of the less complicated improvements you can make to a home. As a result, this kind of improvement is normally covered by permitted development rights especially when you’re not constructing an extension for which to use the French door. However in the events whereby a permission is needed, it will most likely going to be granted if the proposed changes does not have an impact on the primary elevations of the house which is usually the front of the building.

It’s also important to note that permitted development can be limited by local authorities. These limitations include buildings in a conservation area, listed buildings, and if you happen to reside in an area of immense aesthetic appeal or other designated areas like National Parks. If such situation before you change your French doors, it’s important to consult your local authority before proceeding.
