Prior to any type of professional treatment begins, your lawn professional will go to the home and also evaluate the grass state to enable them to recommend the most appropriate treatments options. The evaluation may consist of soil samples, establishing the most prominent lawn kind, the grass density and also colouration of your turf.

Depending upon the kind of treatment required, the approach of application differs.

Some treatments, such as lawn feed and fungicides are splashed onto grass, making sure to cover afflicted and preferred areas. After these treatments options have actually been used its advised that grass isn't sprinkled afterwards, preferably for a couple of days, to enable the products to penetrate the lawn.

  1. Scarification and oygenation are hands-on work, entailing literally steering professional equipment across the turf to separate as well as get rid of thatch that restrains turf development. Some clean-up might be required later on to eliminate undesirable thatch as well as dirt plugs.
  2. Topdressing is likewise a hand-operated process, layering an organic blend of composted products across the turf to include nutrients, followed by cleaning or raking into the ground to make sure penetration.
  3. Nematodes are likewise applied through a spraying procedure, but as they are living microorganisms, many professionals suggest sprinkling the turf prior to their application to ensure that there is enough wetness in the dirt for them to permeate the ground and also grow.
  4. Overseeding - To prepare a grass for overseeding, it's advised that the area is either raked prior to application if there is little thatch, or scarification might be needed for more overlooked turfs-- This will permit the lawn seeds better contact with the soil, allowing for more effective germination. When the lawn prepares, overseeding does not need machinery; rather, the products can be hand sown into the desired locations.

Just How Much Do Lawn Treatment Options Cost in Malvern?

There are a variety of treatments available for turf that can help boost their appearance, health and longevity relying on your requirements-- Some of which appropriate for house do it yourself application, as well as others that will certainly call for a qualified specialist to finish.

FAQs

How to overseed a lawn?

Overseeding your lawn is an essential part of keeping your lawn looking its best. It’s also known as reseeding, and helps to repair damaged areas that might have been caused by a harsh summer or winter. It’s best to overseed your lawn during the spring or autumn, when the temperature is mild but there’s still a fair amount of rainy days to help the grass seed grow. To prepare your lawn for overseeding, you should do the following things around 1-2 weeks beforehand:

  • Weed the lawn by hand or using a weedkiller (make sure you leave enough time to do this according to the instructions)
  • Remove stones and large twigs
  • Scarify your lawn to remove moss and loosen soil
  • Fertilise the soil with a quick-release fertiliser

Once you’ve taken these steps, you’re ready to start overseeding your lawn.

  1. Mow your lawn to around 25mm in length.
  2. Water the soil so it’s moist but not too damp.
  3. Sprinkle your new grass seed evenly over the lawn, but apply more in patchy or thin areas. Generally gardeners say to use 35g per square metre, but up to 50g on thin areas.

When you’re finished, give your lawn a final water, and do this every day until the new grass is established – particularly if it’s not rained. Just make sure you don’t overwater it. It’s also a good idea not to walk on your lawn for around 2-3 weeks after you’ve overseeded it.

When is the best time to start a lawn renovation?

First and foremost, to save your time and money when it comes to lawn renovation, there’s a huge need to figure out why the lawn isn’t doing well in the first place. A lot of times, when changes are made to the basic lawn care practices, cultural practices or site conditions, any need for a renovation would be thrown out the window as the lawn would be given a new life with good health and vigour. However, if you feel renovation is the best option for your lawn, then you’ve come to the right place! In this post, we’re going to consider the best time to start a lawn renovation to help put you on the right path. Let’s take a look!

There are two times during the year that are most suitable for lawn renovation. Firstly, the best time for renovation of a lawn is usually from mid-August to mid-September. Secondly, another great time to achieve this goal is normally during early spring as the lawn is starting to turn green and grow.

So, when do you consider lawn renovation?

  • When the quality of the lawn is simply poor and unacceptable.
  • During the introduction of lower maintenance turf varieties into an existing lawn.
  • When 30% to 50% of the lawn is dead or is experiencing sparse growth which may be due to several factors like drought and heat, low soil fertility, insect damage, moderate soil compaction and more.
  • When the lawn is soft and spongy will walking across. Plus, if it also responds terribly to the application of fertilizer and water.
  • When grassy weeds or broad-leaved weeds covers about 30 to 40 percent of the lawn area with insufficient turf cover to fill in the bare areas once the weed removal is done.
How to level a garden and lawn?

Our gardens are often our pride and joy, so we want them to look their best. If you notice that your garden is uneven, you’ll probably want to do something about it. But how do you level your garden or lawn? A gardener can help you do this and will get the best finish, but if you want to have a go at doing it yourself there are a few steps you can take. Before you start, make sure you’ve got all the following equipment to hand:

  • String line
  • 4 rods & string
  • Tape measure
  • Flat shovel
  • Water sprinkler or watering can
  • A rake
  • Earthmoving and compacting equipment
  • Spirit level
  • 2 x 4 piece of wood
  • Wheelbarrow
  • Protective gloves and shoes

Then, you can get ready to level your garden.

  1. Mark out the area Push 4 rods into the ground around the area you want to level out in a square or rectangle. Tie your string around the rods to connect them all together, ensuring that the string stays tight. Then use your string line to any of the 4 sides to check that it’s level. You’ll then need to measure the height from the ground to the string on all four sides to check how much you would need to adjust the ground to make it level. Make sure you take note of the high and low spots and measure the difference between these spots.
  2. Water the ground to soften it If you want to level your lawn, or the part of your garden that you want to level has grass on it, you’ll need to uproot the ground underneath it. To make it easier to dig and lift out the grass, sprinkle some water over the area before you begin. It’s a good idea to do this over a few days to really soften it – but make sure you don’t do it so much that it becomes too heavy and soggy.
  3. Remove the grass Push your flat shovel into the ground, around 3-6cm deep, then slide the shovel horizontally to lift out the soil and the grass on top. As you repeat this process around the entire area, make sure you try to lift out the soil evenly to avoid making your levelling task even harder.
  4. Add soil Fill low spots with nutrient-rich soil and spread evenly over the area with a rake. If you’re levelling out a large area of your garden, consider renting earthmoving equipment to make it easier.
  5. Flatten the soil Next you’ll want to compact the soil to protect it from erosion. If you’re working on a small garden or area of your garden, simply use your feet – get stomping on that ground! You could also use a rake, but for larger gardens consider hiring a compactor. Then, leave the soil to settle for around 3 weeks before doing anything. If you’re doing this in the summer, you can water it sparingly to keep it from drying out.
  6. Adjust until you’re happy It might take you a few adjustments to get the level of your garden or lawn right. Use a spirit level along a long 2 x 4 piece of wood to see whether the ground is even, then adjust by adding a little more soil or removing soil until it’s at the level you want it.

That’s it. A gardener or landscaping company will be able to level your garden or lawn perfectly, so consider getting some quotes from local companies.

How can I tell if my lawn has diseases or pests?

With summer comes a lot of lawn challenges - from sod webworms, chinch bugs, nutsedge to drought stress, diseases and lots more. A lot of people find it hard to tell what’s happening to their lawn and probably assume it to be as a result of the summer stress and will definitely turn green again once the fall rolls in. This may be right in certain situations, but if you have fungi eating deep into your lawn, the green may not return. So, how exactly do you figure out if your lawn has diseases or pests? In this post, we’re going to provide you with a good insight into this to help you take the necessary treatment steps as soon as possible.

  • Fungal structures. Fungi structures are not usually the easiest to spot as they vary in shape, colour and appearance. Fortunately, most fungi that appears on lawns will possess some type of structure which can be spotted when moisture is present. Once the night time dew sets in, you’ll be able to identify these strange growths in your lawn.
  • Matted or Collapsed Areas. There is some sort of diseases that will make grass plant to wilt in little time. This, combined with fungi structures will make the grass look to have been matted in some areas.
  • Discoloured or oily areas. Some areas are likely to show symptoms more than the others. While the unaffected turf may remain in its normal state, areas that are nearby may vary in colour due to the damage to the leaf tissue.
  • Lesions or spots on leaves. Do you notice a certain damage pattern on the leaf blades of the grass plants? If yes, then your lawn is probably infected with a disease. Some of these spots may vary in size and colour.
