Alton

Alton is a market town and civil parish inside the East Hampshire district in the English county of Hampshire. It is situated across a valley around the source of the River Wey. The town is situated 9 miles from Farnham and 16 miles from Winchester, with London being 52 miles away. Brockham Hill is the highest point in Alton, at 225 metres above sea level. As per the 2011 Census, the town had a population of 17,816. Recorded within the Domesday Book in 1086 as possessing a notable market place, the Saturday market stayed active for numerous years. Yet another significant contributor to the town's local economy was the manufacturing of paper and of dress supplies in the 18th century, which consisted of the creation of ribbed druggets, shallons, silks and serges, bombazine and figured barragons. Alton at present has companies inside the retail and service sectors, which can be found in the centre of the town, and you'll find more than one hundred companies in the four industrial areas of Mill Lane, Newman Lane, Caker Stream and Omega Park. There's a variety of independent and commercial chain businesses for residents to pick from, like a greengrocers, butchers, hardware shop, five supermarkets along with a number of pubs and restaurants. The town is most notorious for its association with Sweet Fanny Adams. This was an eight-year-old girl murdered in the town by a solicitor's clerk, who was on the list of last criminals to be executed in Winchester. The murder occurred simultaneously to the introduction of tinned meat inside the Royal Navy, with all the sailors dissatisfied with the new meals, claiming that it contained the remains of 'Sweet Fanny Adams'. For all of your property improvement work, make sure that you utilise trustworthy pros in Alton to ensure you get the best quality work.

FAQs

What can you put in a skip?

A skip is a very convenient and great means of disposing the unwanted waste and rubbish in your home. When you kick start your home or garden clear out or clean, you’d discover you have a wide range of wastes to get rid of. However before the commencement of such a task, it is essential to understand that there are particular wastes that are not allowed to be put inside a skip for several reasons by the relevant authorities. There are a handful of regulations that determines what goes into a skip and what cannot. And somewhat interestingly, this may differ depending on the skip company you recruit.

With the presence of an array of skip hire companies in the market today, there are several that can allow almost all types of wastes in the skip. However, some of the most common wastes that can be placed inside a skip includes the following:

• Broken furniture pieces

• Plastics ( because they can be easily recycled)

• Solidified paints

• Furnishings and non electrical fittingd

• Uncontaminated soil

• Cardboard and plastic packaging items

• Metal

• Branches and leaves

• Bricks, wood and rubble

It is advisable to ask your skip hire company what you can put in the skip and what you’re not allowed to put in the skip before moving forward. The guidelines can vary from a company to the other and as a result, there is the need to conduct a proper consultation with a skip hire company to help erase or confirm the fears you might have about your unwanted waste or rubbish. How big is a 4 yard skip?

Generally, 4-yard skips are basically designed for small clean or clear out projects or residential use. If you want to carry out a small renovation task or to clear out your home, you simply can not ignore the disposal of your unwanted waste. You’ll save yourself some time, money and potential accidents by hiring a 4-yard skip that will do the job effectively. We are all aware how time consuming it is making several trips to the local waste disposal centre.

When talking about the size of a 4-yard skip, it runs beyond its capacity. Skips of small sizes can be easily accommodated in not too large spaces which can be in the garden or driveway which saves you the stress and money of having to acquire skip hire permits.

If you’d like to know the the size of a 4 yard skip in metres, we’ve got you fully covered for both imperial and metric! The answer is provided below:

Imperial - Width 4’3, Height 3’2

Metric - Width 1.29m, Height 0.972m

It is, however, important to take note that when hiring a skip the measurement might be a bit tricky. The ‘4 yard’ term implies the capacity of the skip and not the length. The actual length of a 4 yard skip is only 6 feet or 2 yards. As a result, before you hire a skip, there’s the need to be clear as to the measurement you’re looking for. Otherwise, you might end up hiring the wrong skip and having to get another. Not good for your pocket, right? Well, that’s why we’ve provided this answer to help you in the best possible way! Can I put a skip on the road?

Apart from the cost of hiring a skip, the area in which to place the large item is another major concern for individuals looking to hire a skip. So if you’re wondering whether you can place your hired skip on the road, there are four legal requirements that applies and must be complied with for your protection in the situation whereby a third party accident takes place. Deciding to overlook these conditions can lead to a fine or forceful removal of the skip by the local council.

Here are the compulsory legal requirements that must be fully complied with:

• Get A Permit

The local council gives out a permit for skips to be placed on the road. This permit must be acquired and the cost may vary depending on the local council in your area.

• Illuminate The Skip

Since the skip is to be placed on the road, then it’ll only make sense to have it illuminated at night or in low lighting situations for safety of all road users. According to the law, lights must be positioned at each end of the skip to be easily spotted.

• Use Cones

According to the law, a minimum of two (2) cones must be placed on the skip’s approach side for the protection of all road users.

• Comply With The Skip Requirements

You can’t place just any skip you like on the road. By the law, there are certain conditions that must be met by the skip itself before placement. It must be painted with the yellow colour on the sides, have both the owner’s name and phone number clearly written on it and must also possess a BS AU152:1970 complying red and yellow fluorescent reflective marking which is compulsory to be acquired within two (2) working days upon filling.
