Ivybridge

Ivybridge is a town and civil parish in the South Hams, in Devon, England. It lies about 9 miles (14.5 km) east of Plymouth. It is at the southern extremity of Dartmoor, a National Park of England and Wales and lies along the A38 'Devon Expressway' road. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11851 people. Specified in documents as early as the 13th century, Ivybridge's early history is marked by its status as an essential crossing-point over the River Erme on the Exeter-to-Plymouth route. In the 16th century, mills were constructed making use of the River Erme's power. The parish of Saint John was formed in 1836, with Ivybridge becoming a civil parish in 1894. It came to be a town in 1977. The early urbanisation and development of Ivybridge largely accompanied the Industrial Revolution. When the South Devon Railway Company built its train route through Ivybridge in the 19th century, a paper mill was constructed together with it, which led to an increase in housing close by. The paper mill closed in the beginning of the 21st century, after being in operation for over 150 years in the town, and the buildings are being transformed to homes and shops. The shopping area is mainly along Fore Street, with some small shops and restaurants positioned in the Glanvilles Mill shopping centre which is accessible from Fore Street. The shopping centre includes over 35 shops, that includes both regional and nationwide chain stores, as well as restaurants and cafés. Although sometimes pertained to as a dormitory town, many individuals work in the town itself, and agriculture continues to play an economic role for Ivybridge's hinterland. The region surrounding Ivybridge is nearly entirely farmland. For all your home refurbishments, be sure to find trusted specialists in Ivybridge to make certain of quality.

FAQs

How much does a skip cost?

This is definitely one of the questions that first comes to mind when considering to acquire a skip for either residential or commercial waste disposal purposes. The cost of a skip is dependent on so many factors but the most significant determinants would be the volume of the waste and type/size of the skip you require.

Once you are able to identify the most suitable skip size for the volume of waste or rubbish for disposal at your premises, estimating the cost would be a lot easier. Here, we’ll give you an insight into skip sizes and the amount of waste each skip type can hold at a go.

Skip Types

• Mini Skip

This is also referred to as a 4 yard skip which is the smallest and has the capacity to hold within a range of 40 and 45 average sized waste bags. It normally costs between £90 to £130 for a week’s hire.

• Medium Skip

The 8 yard skip is the most common and has the capacity to hold within a range of 80 to 90 average sized waste bags. It normally costs between £200 to £250 for a week’s hire.

• Large Skip

The 12 yard skip is the largest and has the capacity to hold within a range of 125 to 135 average sized waste bags. It normally costs between £250 to £340 for a week’s hire outside London. However, it can be a little bit more expensive in the capital - about £350 to £390 for the same amount of time.

It must, however, be taken into account that the cost of a skip also depends on other factors such as your location, the skip hire company, the volume of waste and lots more. Click here to learn more about skip prices.

How big is a 4 yard skip?

Generally, 4-yard skips are basically designed for small clean or clear out projects or residential use. If you want to carry out a small renovation task or to clear out your home, you simply can not ignore the disposal of your unwanted waste. You’ll save yourself some time, money and potential accidents by hiring a 4-yard skip that will do the job effectively. We are all aware how time consuming it is making several trips to the local waste disposal centre.

When talking about the size of a 4-yard skip, it runs beyond its capacity. Skips of small sizes can be easily accommodated in not too large spaces which can be in the garden or driveway which saves you the stress and money of having to acquire skip hire permits.

If you’d like to know the the size of a 4 yard skip in metres, we’ve got you fully covered for both imperial and metric! The answer is provided below:

Imperial - Width 4’3, Height 3’2

Metric - Width 1.29m, Height 0.972m

It is, however, important to take note that when hiring a skip the measurement might be a bit tricky. The ‘4 yard’ term implies the capacity of the skip and not the length. The actual length of a 4 yard skip is only 6 feet or 2 yards. As a result, before you hire a skip, there’s the need to be clear as to the measurement you’re looking for. Otherwise, you might end up hiring the wrong skip and having to get another. Not good for your pocket, right? Well, that’s why we’ve provided this answer to help you in the best possible way! Can I put a skip on the road?

Apart from the cost of hiring a skip, the area in which to place the large item is another major concern for individuals looking to hire a skip. So if you’re wondering whether you can place your hired skip on the road, there are four legal requirements that applies and must be complied with for your protection in the situation whereby a third party accident takes place. Deciding to overlook these conditions can lead to a fine or forceful removal of the skip by the local council.

Here are the compulsory legal requirements that must be fully complied with:

• Get A Permit

The local council gives out a permit for skips to be placed on the road. This permit must be acquired and the cost may vary depending on the local council in your area.

• Illuminate The Skip

Since the skip is to be placed on the road, then it’ll only make sense to have it illuminated at night or in low lighting situations for safety of all road users. According to the law, lights must be positioned at each end of the skip to be easily spotted.

• Use Cones

According to the law, a minimum of two (2) cones must be placed on the skip’s approach side for the protection of all road users.

• Comply With The Skip Requirements

You can’t place just any skip you like on the road. By the law, there are certain conditions that must be met by the skip itself before placement. It must be painted with the yellow colour on the sides, have both the owner’s name and phone number clearly written on it and must also possess a BS AU152:1970 complying red and yellow fluorescent reflective marking which is compulsory to be acquired within two (2) working days upon filling.
