Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London in the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It is separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established just after the sale of land in 1881 to make the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name stems from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby home and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Now, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by way of Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains each hour in the course of the week; on Sundays, there are four trains each hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the construction of homes. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed several individuals.
In addition to the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, one of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are not many buying or leisure opportunities in the town, so people generally go to surrounding places utilising public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is household to the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
