Highbridge is a tiny, former market community situated on the edge of the Somerset Degrees near the mouth of the River Brue. It remains in the County of Somerset, and is around 20 miles (32.2 km) north eastern of Taunton, the county town of Somerset. It is no longer a market community, the marketplace website is now a housing estate. Highbridge is in the District of Sedgemoor, being situated around 7 miles (11.3 km) north of Bridgwater, the area's management centre. Highbridge carefully neighbors Burnham-on-Sea, creating part of the combined parish of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge and also shares a community council with the resort town. In the 2001 census the population was 5,986. In the 2011 census the population of the town was consisted of in the ward of Highbridge and Burnham Marine, which amounted to 7,555.
