Very good finish. I am delighted with the main drive that HAS been finished. However the path that was agreed should also be done was not edged in the same way as the drive = with red bricks at the sides. It was just tarmaced. Mr. Taylor brought the bricks & left them with me. He seemed to be in a very big hurry each day to leave. This could be because it was very cold for his men but I gave them drinks and food every day. I feel that if he had been able to start work at 08.00 hrs, his men could have finished the edging on my path. B ut they turned up at 09.45 & 10.00 hours daily, due to traffic etc. And they left at 14.30 hrs, first day, 16. 30 hrs second day, and 14.00 hrs on the third day. Due to the fact that I had to pay another £1500 more than Mr. Taylor's original quote in the middle of the job, when his men had torn up my whole drive then stopped work till a higher price was agreed, - Mr. Taylor had quoted me £2500 originally and we made out a contract. But half way through he explained that the job was harder than he had estimated, by the removal of the gradient of my drive being steeper than he thought, so he could not just take up the area to be sloped in a gentler way on part of my drive, but found it necessary to take up the whole drive. I was against this but he said it had to be done or I would not be satisfied with his work. I could see that it was not an easy job for their digger machine. I felt I had no option but to agree to paying another £1500 in addition to the £2500 on his contract, as it was going to involve more work and more bricks & tarmac after. Since then, others admiring my drive have 3 times suggested that I was put into a position of being trapped into paying a much higher price by the man perhaps deliberately quoting a low price to get the job from me, then perhps deliberately increased it considerably once the job was in progress & could not be left in its raw state, which would have happened if I had not agreed to pay £4000 - they would have left it as a site of rubble only. Please give me your opinion as to whether this is normal acceptable procedure from your recommended tradespeople?
