Fencing in Ferndown

Interested in getting fencing installed in Ferndown? With the Quotatis service you'll be able to assess as many as 4 fencing installers to get the best deal available for the work you need.

Fencing is really important for all houses no matter whether it's the front or back garden. From restoration work to a total installation of new fencing, employing a respected company is highly recommended to get the best price available.

Fencing act as a boundary to our homes and with an installation you'll add more security to your property and stop easy access to the back garden. Back garden fences are usually close to 6 feet high, which instantly makes it harder for intruders to gain entry.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing tend to be most suitable for the front garden, where security isn't as vital. Instead, you're more likely to choose a front garden fence specifically for decoration and to add something different.

For whatever kind of fencing you're wanting to have installed, make sure to make use of our free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Ferndown.

Ferndown is a town and civil parish in the East Dorset district of Dorset in southern England. It is positioned to the north of unitary authorities of Poole and Bournemouth. At the time of the 2011 Census, the town had a permanent population of 26559. Ferndown is the 2nd largest inland town in Dorset in terms of population, coming next to Dorchester. Within this population, 38.5 per cent are aged 60 or above. Positioned on the outskirts of the town, the Ferndown and Uddens Industrial Estates form the most considerable industrial area in East Dorset, including a mixture of local and nationwide companies. Ferndown Industrial Estate, Uddens Trading Estate and East Dorset Trade Park are spread over an area of 6.1 hectares, the home of a wide variety of industries, such as business, retail and manufacturing. They form the base of numerous household names and major employers, including Farrow and Ball. Organisations on the Ferndown and Uddens Industrial Estates supported the Business Improvement District proposal in July 2014. It passed by 60.5 per cent, with the intent to work for the benefit of all companies located on the estates. Along with market, lots of sports and entertainment activities can be found to be happening in many areas of the town. The King George's Field, named in memorial of King George V, is a considerably large area of open space. It contains a children's play ground with devices for kids with special educational needs, 6 tennis courts, 4 football pitches, a cricket pitch, a bowling green, a boules area, a croquet practice lawn and a fully equipped skateboard park. FAQs

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
What do I need to do to maintain my fence?

Properly erected fences shouldn’t require a great deal of maintenance. Any rotting boards can usually be replaced without replacing the whole panel. Timber fencing should be stained every 2-3 years. General maintenance is something you can carry out yourself, however, larger works may need a qualified professional to come in.

Can I attach something to my neighbour’s fence?

There are a number of reasons why disputes can arise between neighbours – all of which can be quite frustrating and challenging. In some cases, this can even cause serious friction and lead to an all-out war. When it comes to the topic of fencing, one of the most common questions that arises is whether or not you can attach something to your neighbour’s fence. If you’re having the same concern, then you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into this to help you make informed decisions moving forward. Let’s take a look!

The short and simple answer to this question is no, you can’t attach anything to your neighbour’s fence. If your neighbour owns the fence and you’ve not obtained any permission to do so, then you’re not allowed to attach anything to the fence. Otherwise, you can get into serious trouble with your neighbour as well as the law. If you want to attach something or have the wall on your side painted using another colour, then there’s the need to get a permission from the owner. And while doing so, make sure you’re provided with a written permission so as to avoid problems later in the future.

Another question that mostly arises is what if your neighbour declines your request, is there anything you can do about it? Well, the answer to this is no, there’s nothing you can do about it unless you’re able to convince your neighbour otherwise. And you should know starting a neighbour war or being spiteful can only make matters worse for you.

Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.
