Fencing in Much Wenlock

Are you considering getting fencing installed in Much Wenlock? Using the Quotatis service you can compare up to 4 fence companies to get the top deal available for the work you need.

Fencing is extremely important for all homes whether it is the front or back garden. From restoration work to a complete installation of new fencing, using a reliable company is highly encouraged to get the best price available.

Fencing work as a boundary to our households and with an installation you'll increase security to your house preventing easy access to the back garden. Back garden fences are usually close to six feet high, which right away will make it more difficult for intruders to gain access.

Decorative fencing or wooden picket fencing will often be most appropriate for the front garden, where security isn't as paramount. Instead, you're more likely to pick a front garden fence particularly for design and also to add something different.

For whatever style of fencing you're wanting to have installed, make sure you use our totally free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Much Wenlock.

Much Wenlock

Much Wenlock is a town and also parish in Shropshire, England, positioned on the A458 road between Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth. Close by, to the northeast, is the Ironbridge Gorge, and the brand-new town of Telford. The civil parish includes the villages of Homer (1 mile north of the community), Wyke (2 miles northeast), Atterley (2 miles southeast) as well as Bourton (3 miles southwest). The population of the civil parish, according to the 2001 census, was 2,605, enhancing to 2,877 at the 2011 Census. Much Wenlock was traditionally the chief town of the ancient district of Wenlock. The "Much" was added to the name to distinguish it from the nearby Little Wenlock, as well as signifies that it is the larger of both negotiations. Notable historic attractions in the community are Wenlock Priory as well as the Guildhall. The name Wenlock most likely originates from the Celtic name Wininicas, implying "white area" (of the sedimentary rock of Wenlock Edge), plus the Old English loca, indicating "confined area". The community was recorded in the Domesday Book as Wenloch. The Wenlock Olympian Games developed by Dr William Penny Brookes in 1850 are centred in the community. Dr Brookes is attributed as a founding father of the modern Olympic Games, as well as among the London 2012 Summer Olympics mascots; called Wenlock after the town.

    FAQs

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
Do I need to tell my neighbours if I’m going to replace my fence?

It’s a good idea to talk to your neighbours before you start any work to avoid confusion along the way. But if the fence is definitely your responsibility and on your property, there’s no legal obligation to notify them. It’s also a myth that you need to erect a fence with the flush side without posts facing your neighbour’s property.

What do I need to do to maintain my fence?

Properly erected fences shouldn’t require a great deal of maintenance. Any rotting boards can usually be replaced without replacing the whole panel. Timber fencing should be stained every 2-3 years. General maintenance is something you can carry out yourself, however, larger works may need a qualified professional to come in.

What is the cheapest fence to install?

The cheapest fence to install is, generally, a pressure-treated pine wooden fence at around £20 per linear foot. This includes the materials and labour costs. Wire fencing is technically cheaper at around £5 per foot, but it’s not a great material to use in homes as it looks unsightly and doesn’t provide any privacy.
